Anita Pomerantz is Professor Emerita in the Department of Communication at the University at Albany. She is a Conversation Analyst who works with audio and videotapes of interaction. She analyzes the principles relied upon and the methods used for agreeing and disagreeing, seeking and providing information, and negotiating responsibility for blameworthy and praiseworthy deeds in interpersonal, medical and legal contexts.

Anita has served as Chair of the Language and Social Interaction Division of the National Communication Association and as Chair of the Language and Social Interaction Division of the International Communication Association and currently serves on a number of editorial boards of language-oriented journals.
