About Capital District Youth Rugby
Capital District Youth Rugby is the home for youth rugby in New York State's Capital District .
CDYR was incorporated as a not for profit organization in New York State in 2007 and marked our inaugural season with the formation of teams in Albany and Saratoga.
Since 2007 over 250 players have taken part in this exciting sport and we continue to expand with new teams and divisions each year.
What is youth rugby?
Youth rugby is a process of developing rugby players from kindergarten through to high school
players. It involves a pathway of development from small 7 a side non-contact "touch" rugby for
young players, through to full 15 a side contact rugby for high school level teams.
Youth rugby is for both boys and girls
The main reason to play youth rugby is because it is FUN! It requires lots of energy and teaches children to think on their feet by playing a game that does not stop for time outs or breaks in play.

CDYR is delighted to introduce you to 'Rookie Rugby'; a very safe, non-contact, easy-to-play game for both boys and girls!
'Rookie Rugby' is simple to understand and especially play. We will be
offering Rookie Rugby through our Little Danes Rugby Program.
This will enable children in grades 1-8 the opportunity to run, pass and score like the high school kids but without
the contact. Rookie Rugby will be hosted each Saturday in the spring on UAlbany's Rugby fields. The program will be run by the UAlbany coaching staff and assistants who are trained in accordance with USA Rugby's non contact
rookie rugby curriculum. For more information go to our Rookie Rugby Page.
