I am an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), at the University at Albany - State University of New York (SUNY). Before moving to UAlbany, I was a Research Professor at Boston University and I have been fortunate to work with Prof. Tom Little in the Multimedia Communications Lab. I received the Ph.D. degree in 2010 from Jacobs University, Germany under the direction of Prof. Harald Haas at the University of Edinburgh. I earned my Masters of Electrical Engineering in Smart Systems in 2003 from Furtwangen University, Germany and my Bachelors in Communications and Electronics in 2000 from Ain-Shams University, Egypt.
I work in the area of Wireless Networks, Digital Signal Processing and Embedded Systems towards 5G networks, Internet-of-Things (IoT) deployments and cyber-physical systems (CPS) applications. I am particularly interested in optical communications with a particular focus on visible light communications (VLC) / light fidelity (LiFi), heterogeneous networks (HetNets), backscatter communication, indoor localization and sensing.
