Alyssa Lotmore found the opportunities she was seeking both in and out of the classroom at UAlbany.
Graduating with a bachelor's degree in social welfare, Lotmore was a recipient of a Chancellor's Award for academic excellence and was UAlbany's top Scholar-Athlete. She won America East Conference indoor track and field titles in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters and holds the UAlbany records in those events. She twice qualified for the NCAA outdoor regionals.
"Alyssa is one of the most dedicated, hardworking and conscientious student-athletes I have had the pleasure to work with," said her coach, Roberto Vives.
Lotmore credits Vives with establishing a program that "is very family-oriented. I have teammates with whom I have become great friends." She also loved the teams' travels - to Texas, Puerto Rico, North Carolina, Boston, and New York City - "experiences I will never forget."
Lotmore next begins graduate studies in the School of Social Welfare. She still plans to run, all the way from 5k road races up to a marathon.
As at UAlbany, her biggest fan will likely be there cheering. "My mother is a single parent who has worked so hard," said Lotmore. "She comes to all my track meets. I always know she is there supporting me and believing in me."
