McCallion Receives Social Welfare Award and Is Selected as an IASSID Fellow
Phil McCallion, M.S.W. ’81, Ph.D. ’93, Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Aging Services and Community Wellness, received the AGE-SW Career Achievement Award for his outstanding work in gerontology at the Gerontological Society of America meetings in November 2012. McCallion was honored for his many years of rigorous work to generate first-rate scholarly contributions to advance the field. He is an engaged scholar whose work, including the translational research of his Center, has impacted the lives of vulnerable elders locally, nationally and internationally.
He was also selected a fellow of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability (IASSID). Fellows are selected every four years in conjunction with the holding of the IASSID World Congress; McCallion was one of four new fellows selected for the 2012 World Congress. Founded in 1964 as the International Association for the Scientific Study of Mental Deficiency, IASSID is an international, interdisciplinary and scientific non-governmental organization which promotes worldwide research and exchange of information on intellectual disabilities. The Center for Excellence in Aging Services & Community Wellness has had an impact on the lives of vulnerable elders locally, nationally and internationally.
