Center for Human Services Research Awarded Grants for Studies Addressing Domestic Violence, Community Nutrition and Juvenile Detention Alternatives

The Center for Human Services Research (CHSR) was awarded new grants for studies addressing domestic violence, community nutrition and juvenile detention alternatives.

Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Demonstration Initiative
CHSR is partnering with Westchester County on a National Institute of Justice Office on Women Against Violence-funded evaluation of systems and partnerships that addresses domestic violence and intimate partner homicide and its prevention.

Community Nutrition Assessment
CHSR is conducting a study of factors that would encourage healthy food choices by low-income residents residing in Washington and Warren counties.

Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative
CHSR is collecting and analyzing data that will inform policy and case-level decisions for Albany County’s Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI). The initiative aims to reduce unnecessary and inappropriate placement in secure detention for New York State youth. The study is led by CHSR Research Scientist Susan Dietzel.

CHSR is dedicated to developing empirically based knowledge to improve the design and delivery of services that address social issues and meet community needs. Project areas for CHSR include children and family services, children’s mental health services, education and early childhood development, health behavior and services, and youth development and juvenile justice.
