UAlbany’s Social Media helps tell the story of the University by sharing information and news pertaining to undergraduate research, student achievements, institutional milestones and other important campus events. This gallery highlights some of the ways in which we interacted with our students, alumni, faculty/staff and the broader UAlbany online community throughout the year.
The Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams made UAlbany history by advancing to the NCAA Tournament together in the same season. This resulted in an unprecedented outpouring of support and pride in our #NCAADanes, which was documented on Tagboard.
Yes, it was raining more than just confetti - but we celebrated anyway! Commencement highlights included alumni and guest speakers Monte & Avery Lipman, producers of artists like Taylor Swift, Florence and the Machine and Drake. There was also a special surprise performance by Cassadee Pope, Season 3 winner of “The Voice.” A photo tent captured moments of graduates with their families, which were shared extensively on UAlbany’s Facebook page.
UAlbany is proud of its campus diversity, which was highlighted during Black History Month. A photo scavenger hunt, UAlbany Black History facts and trivia on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram showcased the incredible diversity among our 159,000 alumni, students, faculty/staff and guest speakers.
In times of crisis, including weather emergencies, UAlbany relies on its social media outlets to inform the campus community about closures, status of classes, and other key information. That was certainly true in February, when the winter Nor’easter “Nemo” plowed through New York’s Capital Region, causing disruptions to campus activities and services. You heard it on UAlbany’s social media pages first!
Like many people during the holiday season, UAlbany sends a holiday card to its extended family. But this year’s greeting wasn’t just an ordinary card … it was an animated pop-up card video highlighting the uniqueness of our three campuses. The University’s holiday card was featured in several popular higher education blogs, including The Chronicle of Higher Education and CollegeWebEditor.com. Pretty cool, right?
In 2012, the University began expanding its extensive social media network on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and YouTube by adding Instagram and Pinterest to the mix. Instagram features campus and student photos taken by University staff and our followers. Pinterest paints a picture of life as a Great Dane in - what else - purple & gold!
We love hearing from students on social media. Whether they have questions, want to show their pride in being part of the #PurpleFam, or just feel like telling us they love UAlbany. And we love them right back.
