Information Technology Management (ITM) Department Ranked #59 in the World for Research

The Information Technology Management (ITM) department has been ranked #59 in the world for research.

The ranking is based on the number of publications in the top eight Information Systems journals over the last 3 years. The list is created by senior scholars in the Association for Information Systems (AIS). AIS is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems worldwide.

The University at Albany is ranked ahead of the University of Michigan (#66), Indiana University (#68), and Purdue University (#78), as well as other respected institutions in the northeast region such as University of Rochester (#71), Boston University (#96), the University at Buffalo (#92), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (#100).

The ranking reflects both the quality and quantity of faculty research publications, but does not adjust for the number of faculty in the department. Most other ranked institutions have larger ITM departments than the University at Albany’s.

External funding for the School of Business has increased from approximately $1.2 million in 2008-09 to $2.7 million in 2009-10 to $3.6 million in 2010-11. ITM department faculty members attracted a major portion of this funding, including serving as co-PIs on two National Science Foundation grants totaling $1.6 million.
