MFA Student Julie Casper Roth Selected to Receive a Professional Develoment Fellowship in the Visual Arts from the College Arts Association

Julie Casper RothJulie Casper Roth, an MFA student in art at the University at Albany, has been selected to receive a Professional Development Fellowship in the Visual Arts from the College Arts Association, the nation's leading arts organization for higher education. Roth is one of only five graduate students in the country selected for the prestigious honor, which includes a grant of  $5,000.

The Professional Development Fellowship in Visual Arts is a highly-competitive grant awarded to studio arts graduate students in their final year of study. Awardees are selected on the basis of work samples, recommendations, and a proposal for their graduate thesis show. The award is meant to further the artistic and professional work of the awardees.

Roth is an award-winning video artist whose work focuses on experimental explorations of identity and perception. Her videos often feature viewpoints that are ignored or dismissed in mainstream representations. Roth's graduate thesis exhibit will consider the influence of Mormonism on gender and sexual identity. Among other projects, Roth is working on a video project about the evolutionary function of autism.
