Brian Lillis
Successful on the Court and in the Classroom

Brian Lillis found lessons for success both on the basketball court and in the classroom.

As number 21 on the men's basketball team, Lillis helped lead the UAlbany Great Danes where no SUNY institution had gone before.

The Iowa native was a starting guard/forward on the Division I Danes in 2006 when they captured the America East Conference championship and qualified for the NCAA tournament - both firsts in UAlbany history. He then helped them repeat the feat in 2007.

In the classroom, Lillis earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, and after graduation, landed a job as a financial analyst for The Allstate Corporation in Chicago.

His excellence in both athletics and academics was recognized by the State University of New York with the 2007-08 Scholar Athlete Award, one of the system's most selective and prestigious awards.

Basketball Head Coach Will Brown described Lillis as a leader on and off the court, and a student-athlete in the truest sense. "His work ethic is so impressive," Brown said. "Brian is a special individual who is going to be very successful in all of his future endeavors."

"We had a very diverse team," Lillis said, adding that he and his teammates shared a close bond. "It helped me understand what people are like from different areas and backgrounds. I think that will benefit me the most."
