The excellence of University at Albany faculty is reflected in nationally recognized academic programs, dramatic growth in research funding, and the success of UAlbany's more than 143,000 alumni around the world.

Many awards and grants also recognize the accomplishments of UAlbany's 1,039 faculty members, and these are listed in the reports by UAlbany's nine schools and colleges.

One example of the national recognition earned by faculty in 2007-2008 were eight Fulbright awards, highlighting UAlbany's global influence and rich diversity.

Fulbright Scholar grants were awarded to:

Robert Howell, professor, philosophy, for lecturing and research on Kantian objects and the metaphysics of art, Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia;

Edward Schwarzschild, associate professor, English, for lecturing and research on contemporary literature and American writers and the visual arts, University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain; and

Louise-Anne McNutt, associate professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, for lecturing and research on developing the school of the public health and prevention of blood borne pathogen transmission, Tbilisi State Medical University in Tbilisi, Georgia (Republic of Georgia).

Also sharing their expertise abroad in short-term assignments were five faculty members selected as Fulbright Senior Specialists:

Christine Bose, professor, sociology, University of Costa Rica, Costa Rica;

Paul Castellani, public service professor, public administration and policy, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary;

Robert Nakamura, professor, political science, Mykolas Romeris University, Vilnius, Lithuania;

Charles Shepherdson, professor, English, Taiwan; and

Ronald Toseland, professor, social welfare, Tula State Pedagogical University, Russia.

In addition to these Fulbrights, UAlbany faculty were recognized by a wide range of other awards, which are reported by schools and colleges in "A Hub for New Ideas."
