More than 60 percent of UAlbany's Division I student-athletes won conference all-academic honors, a reflection of the University's commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field.

Major Highlights

In 2007-08, UAlbany won the Northeast Conference football title and three America East Conference championships in women's volleyball, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, and women's golf.

UAlbany football became the fifth team in Northeast Conference history to go undefeated in league play. Head coach Bob Ford led the Great Danes to an 8-4 overall record and a Gridiron Classic appearance.

Women's volleyball claimed the program's first-ever NCAA tournament victory against Cleveland State. The Great Danes captured their third America East tournament championship in the last four years.

Men's track & field finished first in the conference's indoor championship for the third consecutive year and won the outdoor crown for the fourth year in a row.

Amanda McPhee and Corrin Conroy tied for medalist honors as women's golf won its second America East title.


Awards and Recognition

Softball player Amber Maisonet '08 became the fifth UAlbany athlete at the Division I level to be voted national first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America.

Basketball starting guard/forward Brian Lillis '08 was selected Fans' Choice Player of the Year in the America East Conference.

Michelle Simpson earned second-team All-America recognition by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She also received all-region and all-conference honors.

Luke Schoen became UAlbany's first-ever Division I All-American in the pole vault with his leap of 17-feet, 2.75-inches to finish fifth in the pole vault finals at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Midfielder Jordan Levine '08 of men's lacrosse made his second consecutive appearance on the USILA All-America Team.

David McCarty, a tailback on the football team, was named to the Sports Network Mid-Major All-America first team. McCarty rushed for 1,503 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Four student-athletes received State University of New York Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Conference coach of the year honors were awarded to Bob Ford (football), Trina Patterson (women's basketball), Richard "Doc" Sauers (women's golf), Chris Cannata (softball) and Elisa Kinard (women's tennis).
