This web site provides information about the Euricom Project "Electronic Networks and Democracy", including a description of Euricom, the European Institute of Communication and Culture.

The first project activity, held in Piran, Slovenia, in September 2001,was a colloquium involving scholars from Europe and Asia. The reflections of one of the participants provides indication of the topics addressed at this event. Abstracts of papers prepared for the Piran colloquium can be found on the site. Some of the papers have been published in theme issues of Javnost-The Public and Communications: The European Journal of Communication Research. The abstracts of these publications can be found elsewhere on this site under Javnost abstracts and EJCR abstracts.

A sequel to the Piran colloquium took place on October 9-12, 2002, in Nijmegen. Also, a preliminary workshop was held in Amsterdam on October 8, 2002. For complete information about the activities that took place in Nijmegen and Amsterdam please see the Euricom Project site for "Electronic Networks and Democracy".

A follow-up one-day workshop will take place on Friday, May 23, 2003 as a preconference to the annual meeting of the International Communication Association. The preconference is entitled: Electronic Networks and Democracy: Setting the Research Agenda. This web site describes activities associated with this event.

Participants in this Euricom Project, both those that contributed to the first colloquium and other interested scholars, are listed elsewhere on this web site. Preconference participants are also listed on this website.
