TWENTIETH CENTURY was the prototype for the screwball comedies of the 30s. It also propelled Carole Lombard into a star comedienne. An egomaniacal Broadway producer turns a chorus girl into a star only to have her turn her back on him and force him into bankruptcy. The film is based on the Broadway play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur.
