Engaging Feminisms - A Community-University Dialogue

Coming soon in Fall 2011.

The Department of Women’s Studies is pleased to announce that it recently received a $2500 support grant from the Vice President for Research to hold a conference entitled “Engaging Feminisms, Engaging Communities” in Fall 2011. The conference will bring together community activists, students, and faculty in dialogue to strengthen ties between the academy and the communities of which it is a part, foster conversation and coalitions among feminists in the Capital Region, and address social problems through participatory research, pedagogy, and advocacy.

Specifically, the Fall 2011 conference will identify immediate problems impacting women and girls in the Capital Region of New York and consider how activists, faculty, and students can work to create two-way knowledge production and community problem-solving. This conference builds on a successful workshop, sponsored by the Institute for Reseach on Women and the Women's Studies Department, which brought together 25 faculty, students, and community representatives in May 2011.
