Founders' Statement:
Our primary purpose in developing the e-journal was to create a
space where the voices of social change can be vocalized, and where
silence is transcended into a forceful medium of change. Our hope
is that transcending silence… grows increasingly
more influential within our academic community, a vehicle of expression
for scholar activists from across the spectrum. Publishing the first
issue and completing the design for the journal is not an endpoint.
This publication, at its heart, demands that the technological privileges
that have greeted us in the 21st century be integrated at each step
in the creative process. We have made a conscious effort to apply
information fluency and different ways of "knowing" to
the discussion and counteraction of social inequality. The completion
of the journal and the publication of the first issue is only the
first step in a creative process. Peering into the future, we recognize
the ongoing necessity for a dynamic voice that declares itself in
the presence of domineering societal silences. We hope that transcending
silence… will
be an activist tool for the exploration of concepts that are ever
present in modern society.
