Summer Health Fair
The Women’s Health Project celebrated the beginning of summer with a Summer Health Fair that included entertainment, and health information and services. The free event took place Thursday, June 14 in the community room at Bliss Towers (41 N. 2nd St.) in Hudson, New York.
Kuumba Dance and Drum Students from Operation Unite Education and Cultural Arts Center provided a rousing performance that had attendees up on their feet dancing. Poetry recited by hip hop poet Ifetayo Cobbins visibly moved members of the audience.
At the health resource fair, participants talked with representatives of local organizations that provide health care services, signed up for services and received taxi vouchers for rides to and from women’s health services within Hudson. Organizations participating in the health resource fair included the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York, Columbia County Community Healthcare Consortium, Columbia County Department of Health, Independent Living, Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties, Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and the Women’s Health Project Taxi Voucher Program.
The event also included prize drawings and refreshments.
The event was the 20th in a series of free health events offered by the Women’s Health Project, a community-based initiative of the Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities at the University at Albany.
