Women on the Web

The World Wide Web (more commonly known now as simply "the web") has become an invaluable information system frequently accessed by many on campus for business and personal purposes. The University at Albany's Women's Community has a web site that can be accessed at either:
http://www.albany.edu/women or http://www.albany.edu/wc

If you have suggestions for the Women's Community Web pages or if you would like to work on developing these pages, contact Nancy Machold via e-mail to nmachold@uamail.albany.edu.

Women's Studies

One of the oldest departmental presences on the University web site is the Department of Women's Studies web site.
Sections of the Women's Studies web pages include:

Ongoing maintenance of the Women's Studies web site is the responsibility of the Women's Studies webmaster Vivian Ng, associate professor in the Women's Studies department. Check out the Women's Studies web page http://www.albany.edu/ws/

Institute for Research on Women

Another web presence of interest to women is that of the Institute for Research on Women (IROW). The IROW web site offers information about IROW including its programs, projects, events, and publications, as well as a listing of related web links. You can check out the IROW pages at: http://www.albany.edu/irow/

Initiatives For Women

The University at Albany proudly endorses the promotion and equal opportunity endeavors of women. One of the ways this is accomplished is through the efforts of our Initiatives For Women (IFW) program, designed to enhance the educational and career advancement for women. The IFW web pages provide information about the program, its fundraising activities, donors, and special events as well as its steering committee, patrons, special events, activities, and outreach program. The web site offers specific information about applying for an IFW award including application materials, hints for producing a competitive application, and lists of previous recipients. The IFW webmaster is Joy Ewing, a staff assistant in the Office of General Studies. Check out this information at: http://www.albany.edu/ifw

Web Opportunities for Women

To produce an attractive and effective web page requires creative ideas, talent in design and layout, and technical skills such as scanning or downloading from a digital camera. Specialized software to manipulate HTML (the web "language" or "code") and graphics requires time and experience to master. Developing proficiencies in these areas, however, makes possible incredible visual effects and the delivery of your information, whatever your message may be, to your choice of a local or an international audience. If you are interested in learning more about producing web pages, consider volunteering to work on one of the "women on the web" projects on campus. You'll learn, and you'll meet new people.
