The Art Department, in conjunction with the members of the Arts Alliance Committee (Departments of Art, Theatre, Music, and The University Art Museum), is pleased to announce the formation of an interdisciplinary Center for Art and Technology (CAT), as mentioned in the College of Arts and Sciences Strategic Plan 2003-2008. A unique collaboration between UAlbany, Apple Computer, and several other visionary groups and individuals, CAT is primarily concerned with the interfacing of emerging technology in various fields, but particularly as relates to the visual arts. The Center will be a nexus of theoretical and practical work in emerging art forms, where artists, critics, historians, scientists, theoreticians and technicians come together to engage the art of the future. Community outreach programs (including high school and continuing education), undergraduate and graduate research, artist's residencies and local, state, national and international business community liaisons will augment the Center's core research mission, which involves artistic production (the cornerstone of CAT), early adoption of fringe technologies and audience development.
