We are looking for photographs that take new and unusual perspectives on life in- and out of the classroom, school-buildings and school yards as well as the educational lives of children in the family, the neighborhood, and among peers, wherever learning—formal and informal—takes place. Objects and artifacts that have stories to tell about education are also legitimate subjects of inquiry.
Themes of inquiry might include:
| —equality and inequality in public schooling; | |
| —the use and control of space in schools; | |
| —how students appropriate space and objects for their purposes; | |
| —control and discipline; | |
| —play; | |
| —the hidden curriculum; | |
| —dress codes; | |
| —the material conditions of schooling; | |
| —students’ “off-task” productions, including drawings, doodlings, graffity, etc. |
We also encourage international and cross-cultural submissions.
