Council Meeting Dates

The Fall meeting dates for the University Council are are as follows: Thursday, Oct. 1, Thursday, Nov. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 10. All meetings are held at 4 p.m. in AD 253. For more information, call Sorrell Chesin at 442-5300.


Scholar from Guinea-Bissau

Oscar Balde, a Member of Parliament from Guinea-Bissau, has been a visiting scholar at the Center for Legislative Development since May.

Concluding his work at the University this month, Balde is here under the auspices of the African Training for Leadership and Advanced Skills (ATLAS) Project, which is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the African-American Institute. He is carrying out research on legislatures, democratization, economic development, and US-African relations. The Center is a consortium member of a five-year economic and democratic development project in Guinea-Bissau funded by USAID.


Join the Heartwalk

President Hitchcock is once again the Chairperson for the regional chapter of the American Heartwalk, to be held again at Siena College, this year�s on Sept. 26.

Those wishing to show support for the cause may sign up to be a walker, and find sponsors for their participation. Each division has a designated recruitment leader from whom walker packets can be obtained. As usual there are prizes for $100 or more in contributions.

Family entertainment area this year includes Mr. Bouncety Bounce, clowns, balloons and face-painting.


Pursuing Graduate Students

The Graduate Exploration Program, a promotional campaign to increase enrollment in degree and non-degree graduate courses began this summer. This initiative involves specially designed courses, print advertising, and Spectrum Theatre slide advertising. A course listing was inserted into Times Union newspapers on July 28, and an information session followed up on Aug. 5 in the "Welcome Center" of the Administration Building.
