Communication Experts Boost Conference

Six members of the University community are scheduled to present scholarly papers at the 84th Annual Meeting of the National Communication Association. Four of Albanys participants from the Department of Communication are Francois Cooren, Janis L. Edwards, Kathleen E. Kendall, and Robert E. Sanders. Each will present at least one and up to five papers during the five day conference, Nov. 20-24, in New York City.

Two graduate students will also be participating at the annual meeting: Huey Rong Chen will act as a respondent during one program and Joan C. Lawrence-Bauer will act as a chair during another.

Nominations Called for Alumni Awards

The Alumni Association annually recognizes distinguished alumni and non-alumni for outstanding service to the University, their communities and their professions. University community members that know of an alumnus or friend of the University who deserves some special recognition are encouraged to request a nomination form by Friday, Oct. 30, and to have it returned by Nov. 16.

The awards program has been redesigned this year to make the nomination process simpler and quicker, according to Diane DiGiorgio 80, chair of the Association.

Nominations are now being accepted for: the Bertha Brimmer Medal, which honors alumni who demonstrate outstanding teaching ability at the secondary school level in New York State; Citizen of the University, which salutes non-alumni for exceptional leadership or service to the University community; Distinguished Alumni Awards, which honor alumni who have displayed distinctive achievements in their careers and/or civic involvement; Excellence in Teaching, which pays tribute to alumni for distinction in teaching; and Excellence in Alumni Service, which recognizes outstanding service to the University and/or Alumni Association.

The awards will be presented at the Universitys Awards Dinner in June. For more details, contact Melissa Samuels in Alumni Affairs by phone at 2-3083 or by e-mail at [email protected].
