Bonnie Steinbock of the Department of Philosophy has been invited to be a keynote speaker next spring when the University of San Francisco and the Fleishhaker endowment sponsor a conference on "Human Cloning: Science, Ethics, and Public Policy."

The conference will feature renowned authorities explaining the science and history of cloning., debating the ethical issues, and discussing significant aspects of public policy related to the topic.

Steinbock has researched and published extensively on biomedical ethics, including work on the new reproductive technologies.


Sung Bok Kim of the Department of History delivered a paper on "American Historical Scholarship and Organizations, Past and Present (1884 to 1997)" at the Korean Historical Association's Special Symposium, August 20-21. Kim spoke to three other audiences of academic historians during his trip to Korea in the second half of August.
