2016 Resident Dining Student Satisfaction Survey Summary

The 2016 Resident Dining Student Satisfaction Survey had an impressive 35 percent voluntary response rate. We believe this high response rate gives us an excellent basis to judge the resident dining performance and set new goals and initiatives.

Below are some of the findings from the survey.These survey results are the composite scores based on 5 being “Extremely Satisfied” and 1 being “Extremely Dissatisfied.”

A sampling from the series of questions about your overall satisfaction with resident dining, the average scores from the highest satisfaction to the lowest satisfaction, were as follows:

  • Convenient location 4.3
  • Comfortable/relaxing environment 3.9
  • Fast service 3.6
  • Offers nutritious/healthy options 3
  • Offers a wide variety of food 2.7
  • Has food I really like/want 2.4

A sampling from the series of questions about items you think are important to have in resident dining, the average scores, from most important to least important, were as follows:

  • Late night hours 4.4
  • Student input in menus 4.3
  • Wide variety of condiments to customize your food 3.9
  • Special dining events 3.6
  • Local food offerings 3.5
  • International offerings 3.2

When asked whether you would recommend the resident dining location to a friend or colleague, the average score was 5.2 on a 10-point-sale.

Here are a few of the most common answers to the open-ended questions:

"What does the resident dining hall do best?"

  • 9 times out of 10 staff is extremely helpful and efficient
  • Always has enough food
  • Cleanliness
  • Fast service
  • Has various options and caters to students
  • I like the special events

"What program(s) would you like to see in the resident dining rooms?"

  • Indian food days
  • Make your own pizza days
  • A constant Latino presence and I'm not talking tacos
  • More international food
  • Entertainment (bands etc.)
  • Seafood days

"Is there anything dining services could do to enhance your resident dining experience?"

  • Actual Asian cuisine with real Asian chefs
  • Add more vegetarian options
  • Healthier options
  • 24-hour service
  • Allow us to take food out
  • Enhance food variety

Our goal is to have every student rate every aspect of UAlbany Dining's service at "Extremely Satisfied." We believe that these scores and comments not only point out areas where dining services need improvement, but also highlight areas where they seem to be doing well.
