Small Things Make A Difference

Save recyclables & actually recycle them- paper, cans, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, magazines, etc. Toss them into the appropriate bins on your way to class - how long does that take?

  • Switch to CFL lightbulbs - even if the only lightbulb you change is your desk lamp, you are still helping to save our limited resources. You can also help by turning off lights and electronics when you are not in the room.
  • Use your printer wisely - print on both sides of the paper when ever possible and cut down on the documents that you print.
  • Walk, bike & use public transportation whenever possible - the exercise is good for you, and the energy savings are good for the earth.
  • Use reusable shopping bags - rather than paper or plastic bags, and use refillable water bottles and thermal cups for hot beverages.
  • Limit the use of disposable cups and plates - use inexpensive cups and plates that you can wash. Conserve on the number of paper napkins you use also - one napkin will probably be enough.
  • Buy recycled products (like paper & cleaning products) whenever possible.
  • Pick up some litter - isn't trash the worst thing to look at? Next time you are on your way to class, pick up trash & toss it into a trash bin. If it's on your way, it won't take up much of your time and you will not only be doing a good thing, you will help make UAlbany a place to be proud of.
