GEORGE R. HEARST III
President

George has been a director of the University at Albany Foundation since 1990. He is president of the Foundation, and chairs the Executive Committee. In 1997, he was nominated for the Citizen of the University award. George was also vice chair of the Campaign for Albany, and was instrumental in establishing two endowments—the Hearst Foundation Minority Student Scholarship and the Hearst Foundation School of Social Welfare Fellowship.

George is president and publisher of the Albany Times Union, the Capital District’s largest newspaper, and is also a director of the Hearst Corporation. In addition, George is actively involved in a number of other charities/organizations, including the Albany Institute of History and Art, the College of St. Rose, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and St. Peter’s Health Partners.

George earned a B.S. in business administration from Pepperdine University in 1977. He lives in Menands with his wife, Christine Hearst and they have a daughter, Emma.
