THE SUNY GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
In December 1988, the SUNY Board of Trustees established a General Education Requirement applicable to all state-operated institutions of the State University offering undergraduate degrees. “The SUNY General Education Requirement directs candidates for a bachelors degree, as a condition of graduation, to complete an academically rigorous and comprehensive core General Education curriculum of no fewer than thirty credit hours including, but not limited to, at least three credit hours of course work to instill knowledge and skills in each of the following academic subject: mathematics, natural science, social science, American history, Western Civilization, Other World Civilizations, humanities, the arts, Foreign languages and basic communications.” The Associate of Art and Associate of Science curricula at Dutchess Community College have been modified to include a minimum of twenty-one of the required thirty General Education credit hours. Pending modification of current SUNY approvals, the courses listed in the following appendices satisfy the General Education requirement in the designated academic subject.
