A Joint Admissions Agreement Between
The University at Albany, State University of New York and
Broome Community College

The purpose of this agreement is to outline the procedures for a joint admissions program between the University at Albany, State University of New York (hereinafter identified as the University at Albany or UA) and Broome Community College (hereinafter identified as BCC).

Under the Joint Admissions Program, students are admitted to BCC as a first year matriculate and conditionally admitted to UA (pending successful completion of the program and their Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree). Students are assured that if they achieve the stipulated academic proficiency and distribution requirements as detailed in the BCC/UA Transfer Guide, it will be possible to complete their baccalaureate degree at the University at Albany in four additional semesters (or equivalent for part-time students). Candidates indicating an interest in the program will receive a letter of admission from the Director of Admissions at BCC and a letter of acknowledgement from the Director of Admissions at the University at Albany.

The students in the Joint Admission Program are expected to enroll at the University at Albany in the semester following the completion of the Associate degree. Students not wishing to begin their baccalaureate program at UA at that time must notify UA immediately and will be required to submit a new application for admission as a transfer student (not joint admissions). These students must have their total academic record reviewed for admission consideration at that point and will not be eligible for automatic transfer.

Major requirements for the bachelor's degree will be those in effect at the time the student transfers to UA.

All students interested in participating in the joint admissions program must indicate their interest to a transfer counselor at BCC by February 15th or October 15th of their 2nd full time semester (or its part-time equivalent) to confirm their interest. They also need to follow the guidelines listed below:

1. Work with the transfer counselor at BCC to submit a completed Joint Admissions Supplemental Application (JA-1) and official transcript to the University at Albany during the semester prior to transfer. This information must be received by the University at Albany by March 1 or November 1 of the semester prior to enrollment. These application materials should be submitted to the Transfer Counselor at BCC not later than February 15th or October 15th.

2. Once a student's successful completion of the joint admissions program is confirmed by University at Albany the students will return their tuition deposit and card to the Office of Student Accounts at the University at Albany by May 1 for Fall/Summer enrollment, or December 1 for Spring enrollment. The deposit card and instructions are contained in the confirmation letter a student will receive during the semester prior to enrollment provided he/she has meet all the appropriate requirements.

The University at Albany, State University of New York and Broome Community College agree jointly to provide for the following:

1. BCC and the University at Albany will each designate a coordinator of the joint admissions
program at their campus. The coordinator at BCC is the Transfer Counselor; the coordinator at University at Albany is a transfer admissions counselor in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

2. BCC and the University at Albany will develop, cooperatively, informational publications
pertaining to the joint admissions program.

The University at Albany, State University of New York agrees to provide the following for students at Broome Community College who have been accepted in to the Joint Admission Program:

1. In consultation with S.C.C.C. staff, a Transfer Guide for Broome Community College students has been developed, outlining required and recommended courses for each articulated PROGRAM OF STUDY.

2. Students who pay their tuition deposit by the appropriate deadline will be given the opportunity to register for classes during the earliest Transfer Planning Conference (this will ensure the best possible selection of courses for the student's first term at UA).

3. Students will be welcomed to attend UA functions and will be encouraged to visit the University at Albany to tour the campus and/or meet with admissions counselors.

4. Representatives of the University at Albany will meet at the BCC campus with students in the joint admission program on a periodic basis. The purpose of these meetings will be to provide advice about UA's curriculum and general information about the University.

5. The University at Albany agrees to provide, as needed, information sessions with faculty and staff of BCC who will be involved in advising students enrolled in the joint admissions program.

6. The University at Albany will, upon request, provide BCC with reports on the academic status of BCC graduates who continue their studies at the University at Albany under the terms of this joint admissions program.

Broome Community College agrees to the following:

1. Application forms for the Joint Admission Program may be obtained from BCC's Office of Admissions or the Transfer Advisement Office.

2. The BCC Office of Admissions will allow students to select the joint admissions option upon admission to the college. The University at Albany Undergraduate Admissions Office is available for consultation and information on recruitment and admission matters.

3. On November 1st and March 1st of each year, BCC will provide the University at Albany with a list of all students participating in the joint admissions program. Also at this time, BCC will submit the completed JA-1 form for those joint admissions students scheduled to graduate at the end of the semester who have indicated their intent to attend the University at Albany the following semester. An official copy of the student's BCC transcript will be submitted with the JA-1 form.

4. BCC agrees to distribute the BCC/UA Transfer Guide to joint admissions students and assist in setting up advisement programs involving BCC faculty and staff.

Terms of this Agreement

This agreement will go into effect for the Fall 2003 admissions date.

To meet the terms of the Admissions guarantee, BCC students interested in programs in the Arts and Sciences must have a minimum 2.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). To qualify for guaranteed admission into Accounting/Business Administration students must have a 3.00 Cumulative GPA and the appropriate prerequisites as outlined in the Transfer Guide. The Criminal Justice and Social Welfare programs are not subject to this agreement. BCC students who enter the Joint Admission/Transfer Articulated Program who have not achieved the required GPA or who have not completed an Articulated Program of Study are not eligible for automatic transfer, but may still choose to file an application as a transfer student. Such cases will be considered on an individual basis. This program is not available to students who have attended another college prior to enrollment at BCC.
