Student Association
The Student Association (SA) at the University at Albany was first created in 1921. Today, they are the recognized undergraduate student government here on campus. The SA administers funds from its approximately $2 million budget to approximately 200 recognized student organizations. A full listing can be found
here but if there is a group missing, students are encouraged to find a few peers and start a group. It's possible to get recognized and funded in a little over a semester! The SA also helps the University with planning major events, and plans its own events: movie nights, local band concerts, comedy shows, tailgating events, and more! In addition, twice a year the Student Association puts on concert events with big name acts at Fall Fest and Park Fest. Park Fest is the largest student organized concert in the Northeast! In recent years we've had the All-American Rejects, Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, 50 Cent, Ludacris, Simple Plan, and so many more.
SA Student Services
The Student Association also provides students with valuable services. On campus intramural sports are organized by SA, which are very popular among students. There are 8 different sports, in two different seasons for students to choose from. SA also oversees Copies Plus, a multi-function "Kinko's" type establishment that provides students and student groups with copying, cutting, and binding services. Copies Plus also sells optional student packets that professors might put out, discount movie tickets, discount bus tickets, as well as SA concert and event tickets. Lastly, the Student Association maintains Student Legal Services which provides students with court representation and advisement for a variety of issues that students might encounter. They also offer legal internships with the School of Criminal Justice.
Camp Dippikill
UAlbany's Student Association also owns Camp Dippikill, located in Warrensburg. It is an 850-acre wilderness retreat facility with a 20-acre pond and 7.5 miles of well-groomed trails. Dippikill was purchased in 1956 for $10,000 through a deal brokered by former SA President, Neil C. Brown, Jr. Dippikill has often been referred to as the students' personal "Walden", a reference to Henry David Thoreau who wrote about and frequently visited the area. Crisp air, vibrant colors and the tranquil surroundings of the Adirondack Mountains welcome all who venture out this way. There are eight lodges at Dippikill which range in size and style, to accommodate any guest. There are also eight camp sites, four at the pond and four at the Bathhouse. Camp Dippikill is truly a remarkable place!
