Office of the Vice President

Francis Agyemang is a current junior at the University at Albany, majoring in Human Biology. Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Mr. Agyemang was exposed to a lifestyle that is accustomed to instill the necessary tools to eventually become a successful Vice President. Upon entry in America, as a teenager, he utilized these tools he garnered from his upbringing to develop a passion for giving back to communities lacking and in need. And help create two community service initiatives, Sankofa Africa and Cross Charity Organization. He’s also a proud brother of Groove Phi Groove social fellow incorporated.

During his two years at this academic institution, Francis has dedicated his time to serving the SUNY Albany community and this was evident when he assisted in the formation of Sankofa. Sankofa is an organization dedicated to community service and serving children in impoverished African countries. Along with the help of his e-board Francis also founded the Cross Charities Foundation. Cross Charities is a charity based foundation dedicated to sponsoring and providing educational needs to children worldwide. Through his work with Cross Charities Francis was able to sponsor a 12 year old Malawian girl named Selina. With a monthly donation Francis is able to provide Selina with a better life and the prospect of a formal education in the near future- a prospect that many children in her age group might not have.

Along with his global contribution, he has become a mentor and tutor for many students. As a member of RACE he partnered up with Sherman Preparatory Academy to mentor middle school children in English, Math and the Sciences. While working with National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) he worked closely with the president to mentor, tutor, and prep Albany High students for the SATs. On the SUNY Albany campus Francis works closely with the research foundations (C-Step and project EXCEL) to tutor students in Organic Chemistry.

When he’s not mentoring and tutoring Francis spends most of his time enjoying campus life. He is a part of many campus wide organizations as well as a brother of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Inc.

Francis has had many academic achievements in his time at SUNY Albany. He has been on the dean’s list for many semesters. He is also the recipient of many collegiate awards for academic excellence. He is the recipient of the Dr. Spellman award for academic excellent, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, The Medar Wiley Evers Service Award Nominee from the NAACP and the Ruben Diaz Junior Board for exemplary service to the borough of the Bronx; just to name a few.

As Vice President he plans to provide transparency on how budgets are distributed campus wide. He plans to financially support student groups that are doing well on campus. Francis plans to work closely with the president and student association to improve the conditions of the different departments in the University. As vice president he will strive to represent the student body to the best of his ability and make the students of SUNY Albany proud.

Francis plans on graduating in May of 2014 to continue pursuit of becoming a cardiologist by attending medical school shortly after commencement.
