Department of Community Engagement and Outreach
Donavan Swanson is the current Director of Community Engagement and Outreach. He is from East New York, Brooklyn and is a Junior at the University majoring in Public Administration with a concentration in Education Policy and a minor in French. He plans on pursuing a masters in Higher Education and pursuing law school thereafter to work in Children and Family Services. Prior to the position of Director, Donavan worked as an Assistant Director. He implemented such initiatives like the Albany High Law Mentorship Program, the Professional Clothing Drive, and more. He also serves as a Resident Assistant for freshman on Indian Quad as well as a tour guide for the University.
Donavan finds himself actively engaging in campus life in multiple capacities. He currently performs with UAlbany's "SalsaSUNY"; a member of UAlbany's Debate Team; a member of UAlbany's competitive Moot Court Team; and a newly inducted member to the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. Donavan also serves as a member of UAlbany's Pre-Law Chapter Phi Alpha Delta and has served various positions within the chapter including Webmaster, Mock Trial Chair, and currently Professional Development Chair. In his wide array of activities he often finds himself actively engaging outside the university and serves as Program Coordinator for the Albany YMCA; instructing a servant leadership program for middle school and high school youth.
Continuing within the Department, Donavan hopes to bring innovative ideas to the University this year while continuing annual events and programming. Building community through a series of volunteer opportunities and targeted incentives; Donavan's prerogative is to align the department's mission to that of the president's office and the UAlbany community. He leads this year on the notion that students have the responsibility to "leave the world better than the way they found it".
