Department of Legislative Affairs
Lorenzo Simpson is a transfer student from Nassau Community College that was admitted into the University at Albany in the fall of 2011. He is a Public Policy major with a concentration in Public Administration and his current position is Director of Legislative Affairs. He is currently a senior and is very excited to be working with the Student Association in the capacity of Director and even more excited to be working with the Student Body.
Lorenzo Simpson served as the president of the student government at Nassau Community College. It was during the SUNY wide budget cuts that he first discovered his love for advocacy, especially advocating for the needs of his fellow student. After arriving at the University his first action was to get involved by joining student clubs and organizations, amongst those clubs he found himself most actively involved with the College Democrats of Albany. Campaigning for various candidates, the College Democrats revealed to him that Albany was the prime location to have the voice of the student heard, primarily the Albany student. In his second semester he decided to become involved in the student association and worked as the assistant to the Director of Legislative Affairs. At the end his second semester he was elected Political Director of the University at Albany College Democrats, a position that he believes will better enable him to be more efficient as Director of Legislative Affairs.
Lorenzo’s goal as Director of Legislative Affairs is to get the Albany student body more involved in legislative affairs and have them realize how pivotal the Albany location is, in terms of advocacy and have them more aware of legislative changes that affect the Ualbany campus. Lorenzo is very eager to work with his fellow Ualbany students with any legislative concern that may have. Please feel free to contact him via e-mail, scheduled office hours or by appointment.
