Description of Fees
Broad Based Fees
Broad-based fees include but are not limited to the Intercollegiate Athletics Fee, Student Recreation Fee, the University Fee, the Comprehensive Service Fee offering Transportation, Technology and Health Services, and the Academic Excellence and Success Fee. More information can be found here.
Intercollegiate Athletics Fee
$275.50 for 12 or more credits, $206.63 for 9-11 credits, $137.75 for 6-8 credits. Funds the intercollegiate sports programs including team transportation, uniforms, etc. This fee is mandatory for undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits except for those students in our Overseas Academic Programs. Student Recreation Fee
$39.00 for 12 or more credits, $29.25 for 9-11 credits, $19.50 for 6-8 credits. This Recreation Program is supported by the Student Recreation Fee. This fee is mandatory for undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits except for those students in our Overseas Academic Programs. The fee will provide funding for improving intramural and fitness center services and amenities, the expansion of recreation hours, providing more instructor-based fitness classes, the planning of outdoor recreation trips, and the coordination of tournaments and weekend activities. Comprehensive Service Fee
$583.00 for 12 or more credits (per credit, $48.58). Covers the University's cost of providing most Health Center services, access to technology, bus service, and parking facilities. This fee is mandatory for all students except students in our Overseas Academic Programs and in the Washington Semester program. Note: The Comprehensive Service Fee rate for members of GSEU is $38.7 per credit ($465.00 for 12 or more credits) and excludes bus and parking privileges. Click here to learn more.
$12.50 for 12 or more credits ($0.85 per credit); provides supplemental support for the academic mission of the University. Mandatory for all students. Non-refundable for course withdrawals bearing an official drop/withdrawal date of the first day of the session or later.
Students that register for any one of the courses listed here will also be billed for the corresponding course fee on their Tuition Invoice. Proposed course fees will be used solely to support the additional costs for materials, supplies and special services related to the course.
Academic Excellence Fee
$75.00 for 12 or more credits, $6.25 per credit. This fee is mandatory for all SUNY students except for those students in our Overseas Academic Programs. The funds are used to provide resources necessary for maintaining quality academic and student success programs. More information can be found here.
Student Activity Fee
$100.00 for 12 or more credits, $75.00 for 9-11 credits, $50.00 for 6-8 credits. Funds the groups, programs, and activities of the Student Association. This fee is mandatory for undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits except for those students in our Overseas Academic Programs.
$20 for all students taking six or more credits. The Student-Alumni Partnership allows students to tap into a network of more than 145,000 alumni, take advantage of the numerous programs designed to help students gain business, professional and leadership skills. From networking and spirit events to scholarship opportunities, the Partnership is designed to help students make the most of their UAlbany experience. If you do not wish to support the Partnership, you may opt out or request a refund by completing the Student-Alumni Partnership Opt-Out Request
Please allow three weeks for the charge to be removed from your bill. The last day to submit a request is the midterm point of the fall and spring terms.
Do you want your financial aid (including loans) to pay for this charge in the future? If so, login into your MyUAlbany Finances page and click on the "Authorize Use of Financial Aid to Pay" link on the left sidebar.
This charge must be paid each semester by all undergraduates and graduates, matriculated and non-matriculated, taking six or more credits who do not elect to opt out by the due date.
Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
All full time undergraduate students must carry health insurance. Only students demonstrating existing health insurance coverage can waive out. If you have insurance and have not yet submitted a waiver, please visit UAlbany Student Health Insurance Plan for full information and to complete your Waiver.
Graduate Student Organization Fee
$22.00. Supports the programs, activities, and services of the Graduate Student Organization. The fee is mandatory for graduate students except for those students in our Overseas Academic Programs.
International Health Insurance
$672.00 for the Spring and Summer terms (1/15/2014 - 8/14/2014). Comprehensive coverage for medical expenses, generally incurred off-campus, arising from covered accidents and sicknesses. There is a deductible that may be waived in some circumstances. The insurance is mandatory for international students and scholars, F-1 and J-1 visas, and for students studying abroad. Medical Evacuation Fee
$49.00 for the Spring and Summer terms (1/15/2014 - 8/14/2014). Includes medical evacuation and repatriation benefits. This fee is mandatory for international students and scholars, F-1 and J-1 visas, and for students studying abroad.
$75.00 per-semester, mandatory fee for all International students who are F and J visa holders. This fee supports compliance with federal mandates for reporting and tracking International students and scholars and is non-refundable for course withdrawals bearing an official drop/withdrawal date of the first day of the semester or later. (NOTE: The University's SEVIS Fee should not be confused with the $200 SEVIS Fee paid by visa applicants.) Summer Service Fee
$49.00: Supports most services available at the University Health Center and the maintenance and development of technology and electronic resources on campus. Mandatory for all students.
Winter Service Fee
$49: Supports most services available at the University Health Center and the maintenance and development of technology and electronic resources on campus. Mandatory for all students.
A $40 fee that is charged to students who register after the regular registration period ends. If you have a question regarding a Late Registration fee, please e-mail the Registrar's Office at Registrar@albany.edu.
An amount charged after each invoice due date for unpaid balances. Charges are as follows:
- Equal to amount owed for balances of $2.01 to $5.00
- $5 for balances above $5.00 through $20
- $10 for balances above $20.00 through $100
- $30 for balances above $100.00 through $1,000
- $40 for balances above $1,000.00 through $2,000
- $50 for balances over $2,000

Late Fee Appeal Policy
$3.00 optional sponsorship of undergraduate class-specific (e.g., Class of 2014) events and activities, including voting privileges in class elections.
$5 optional contribution to the University's student-volunteer ambulance service corps.
Health Center Charges
Health Center Charges appear on your E-Bill along with tuition and fees. No paper bills will be sent. These charges include some in-house laboratory testing, medical equipment, immunizations, oral and other contraceptives, nasal steroids and anti-histamines, for medications dispensed above the maximum allotment each fall and spring semester, and for all medications dispensed during the summer semester. You may authorize the University to pay your Health Center Charges with your Federal Financial Aid.*
Library Charges appear on your E-Bill along with tuition and fees. No paper bills will be sent. You may authorize the University to pay Library Charges with your Federal Financial Aid.*
Room Damage Charges
Room Damage Charges appear on your E-Bill along with tuition and fees. No paper bills will be sent. You may authorize the University to pay Room Damage Charges with your Federal Financial Aid. To Authorize the University at Albany to Use your Federal Financial Aid to pay these charges log onto your MyUAlbany account, go to the “Finances” tab, and click on the link on the left side of the page below "Authorize Use of Financial Aid to Pay..." Authorization only needs to be completed once per academic career. If you decide you no longer want your financial aid to be used to pay these charges, you will need to notify the Student Financial Center via e-mail at SAOQuestions@albany.edu.
