Author Alum David M. Burns, LCSW Guests on The Social Workers Radio Talk Show on Therapeutic Lessons
In January, The Social Workers, a weekly radio talk show on UAlbany’s WCDB 90.9 FM, featured School of Social Welfare alumnus David M. Burns, LCSW, '04, author of Therapeutic Lessons. He explained concepts such as mental illness, recovery, wellness, and group and individual therapy using his experience in an outpatient treatment facility working with clients who suffer from serious and persistent mental illness. Burns explored the "tools of the trade" of counseling and treatment and shared a short wish list of changes he would like to see in the mental health system. Click here to listen to this episode.

The show, co-hosted by Alyssa Lotmore, LMSW, '07, '08, airs Thursdays at 9 a.m. eastern and can be heard online at http://www.wcdbfm.com/. “Our mission is to educate and enlighten our university and extended communities about current social work trends and practices through the medium of radio,” said Zox. It is a unique opportunity for School of Social Welfare students to explore media opportunities in radio hosting, marketing and production. This semester students are taking an independent study course in media work which will be followed by a summer course offering on social work and the media.
