2009 Africa Summer Study Tour
In 2009, Dr. Robert Miller and students from the UAlbany School of Social Welfare traveled to urban and rural areas in Ethiopia and South Africa to examine gender rights, child welfare, capacity building, HIV, and community development from an international perspective. This was the 10th study tour.
The Summer Study Tour to Africa with Dr. Miller is strategically designed to offer 'hands on' opportunities for participants to learn about culture, history, difference, strength, survival, leadership planning, and policy. Visits to villages, cultural markets, and meetings with local community members are used to provide experiential learning. Arranged visits to public and private agencies enable participants to examine delivery of services as well as exchange and share ideas with community based practitioners. The tour was founded in 2000 by Distinguished Professor Shirley Jones.
The 2010 tour dates are July 17 - August 14, 2010, subject to change, and the itinerary includes Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.
The deadline to register for the 2011 tour is March 15, 2011.
