Field and Career Fair

Field & Career Fair 2018

The School of Social Welfare’s 29th annual Field & Career Fair will be held on February 21, 2018 on the downtown campus. A record-setting 64 agencies were in attendance last year, providing information and on-site interviews for internships and employment to both our undergraduate and graduate students. Within one week of the Fair, many students already arranged and/or completed interviews for Field Placement based on contacts they made during the Field & Career Fair. As one student put it,

“I loved the vast array of agencies available - so many opportunities I never knew existed!”-Student

Many students took advantage of Resume workshops and Information Sessions to prepare to best represent themselves to potential supervisors at the Field & Career Fair. This preparation was evident to agency representatives, one of whom commented,

“The students this year were well-prepared, and approached my table professionally dressed, with resumes in hand, and had researched my program and formulated thoughtful questions!”-Field Instructor

This high caliber of engagement with our agency partners demonstrates yet again the value that University at Albany School of Social Welfare students see in our profession!

Why Should I attend the Field & Career Fair?

Juniors in the Baccalaureate Program: You will be meeting with the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Program in the spring semester to discuss possibilities for your senior year field placement. Many of those placement agencies will be represented at the Field & Career Fair; you are encouraged to utilize the fair to research the learning opportunities available to you and continue to assess your areas of interest. This will position you to provide informed opinions about possible field placement opportunities for your senior year.

Seniors in the Baccalaureate Program: You will have the opportunity to both learn about agencies with current job openings and network by distributing your resume to agencies that may be hiring in the near future. If you are hoping to enter the Advanced Standing MSW program, you are encouraged to identify and speak with agency representatives to learn about social work fields in which you may be interested. If you are entering the two-year MSW program, you can familiarize yourself with agencies and their learning opportunities so that you will be better informed when you begin the selection process for your 2nd year field placement.

1st year MSW students: This is your opportunity to present yourself and your updated resume to agencies in which you may be interested in completing your 2nd year field placement! Research agencies in advance, and come dressed for success with multiple copies of your up-to-date resume; you may be invited to participate in an on-site interview for the placement. Be sure to obtain contact information for the agency representatives, and follow up after the fair to thank them for their time and express your continued interest in the placement.

2nd year MSW students: You will have the opportunity to both learn about agencies with current job openings and network by distributing your resume to agencies that may be hiring in the near future. Research agencies in advance, and come dressed for success with multiple copies of your up-to-date resume; you may be invited to participate in a brief on-site employment interview. Be sure to obtain contact information for agency representatives, and follow up after the fair to thank them for their time and express your continued interest in employment with their agency.

****PLEASE NOTE: A list of agencies registered to participate in the 29th annual Field & Career Fair will be sent to students one-two weeks prior to the Fair.****
