Mary-Frances Monroe enters her first year as head women's soccer coach at the University at Albany. She previously served as an assistant coach for the Great Danes last season and was an assisant at Wellesley College in 2004. A four-year college All-American at the University of Connecticut and UCLA, Monroe was a candidate for both the Hermann Trophy and M.A.C. Awards, which are given to the best female collegiate soccer player in the country. During her freshman year, Monroe set UConn’s single-season school record with 65 points and finished fourth among national leaders. She was named the Big East Conference Rookie of the Year and was earned first-team all-conference honors. Monroe, who was selected Freshman of the Year by Soccer America, finished her career at UConn with 117 points, ranking her among the schools’ all-time points leaders. Monroe has played professionally for the Philadelphia Charge and Boston Breakers of the Women’s United Soccer Association and the New England Mutiny of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. In 2005, she played professionally in Sweden for KIF Orebro. She currently plays for the Colorado Springs Sabers in the WPSL. Monroe has also represented the United States at both the youth and senior levels. In 2000, she started for the U-21 Nordic Cup Team that won the championship in Germany. She made her senior team debut later in the year against Australia. Overall, Monroe has represented the United States on nine occasions, starting in six matches. A native of Northport, N.Y., Monroe was a two-time All-American at Northport High School. She scored 85 goals and added 43 assists, while leading her team to the New York State championship in 1996. Along with being NASM certified as a personal trainer, Monroe currently holds a USSF "C" Coaching License. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from UCLA.
Rob Parker was named as assistant coach on April 10, 2006. His main responsibility will be the training and development of UAlbany’s goaltenders. Parker will also assist in all other areas of the program, including game planning, practice preparation, player evaluation and recruiting. An assistant coach with the Great Danes from 1999-2002, Parker returns to UAlbany after four seasons as an assistant at Siena. Under his tutelage, Siena's goalkeeper was selected to the MAAC all-rookie team in 2005. Additionally, Saint keepers twice earned MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Prior to his first stint at UAlbany, Parker was the head coach of the Kingston High School girl’s soccer team from 1996-98 and also served as an assistant at Towson for the 1995 season. He was the starting goalkeeper for Ulster Community College, leading his team into the 1994 NJCAA National Tournament. A member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the United States Soccer Coaches Association and the National Goalie Wars Association, Parker works with several soccer clubs in the community. He has coached the Adirondack Region women's squad at the Empire State Games for the last four years, leading his team to three goal medals and one silver in the open division. Parker holds a NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma, a NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and a USSF National "D" Coaching License. He is also a member of the Eastern New York Olympic Development Program staff. Parker earned his A.S. in criminal justice from Ulster Community College in 1995 and a B.S. in political science from SUNY-New Paltz in 1998. He previously worked in the New York State Legislature as Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Patricia L. Acampora. Ashley Arnone enters her first season as a graduate assistant coach with the UAlbany women’s program. At The College of Saint Rose, Arnone played two years of soccer and was a Northeast-10 scholar-athlete both seasons. She has also coached soccer for the past six summers at Soccer Plus camps, Wininger’s Sports Camp, Dream Camp and Soccer Tots. Arnone, 22, received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from Saint Rose, and is currently pursuing her master’s in the same discipline from UAlbany. Kristin Shaw is in her first season as a volunteer assistant with the UAlbany women’s soccer team. Shaw played with the WPSL’s Colorado Springs Sabers in 2006 and coached the Colorado Springs Premier girls’ soccer teams from 2004 to 2006, as well as the Northern California Premier under-17 girls’ team. She was also an assistant coach for the NorCal Olympic Development U-17 team. Shaw graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in English and received her master’s degree in finance from the University of Colorado.
