MEN'S SOCCER STORIES MEN'S SOCCER SIGNS FIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
Peach was
named third-team all-state by the New York Sportswriters Association and
NSCAA/adidas. He earned
Gordon was
Trinity’s team captain. He
also has played for the Erskine Boys Club and the Kirkintilloch Rob Roy
Juniors F.C. He joins his
brother, Brian, on the UAlbany soccer roster.
Brian was named to the America East Conference all-rookie team as a
freshman in 2006. “He is a
proven scorer whose speed and will get him behind the defense,” Aarnio
offered.
Kane played on
the Under-17 Scottish National Youth Team.
He also represented
Jankovic
has been a member of both the Under-17 and Under-19 Serbia &
Montenegro National Teams. “Milos
is a fierce defensive competitor who has the experience that will impact
upon our program positively,” Aarnio explained.
Jelovac, who
also played for FC Radnicki, was a member of The Great Danes, who were 7-10-2 overall last year, placed fourth in the America East Conference standings with a 5-3 mark. UAlbany qualified for the conference’s postseason tournament for the third consecutive season. University

UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY ANNOUNCES 2007 MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULES Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced on Wednesday, April 18 the school's men's and women's soccer schedule for 2007. The men will play a 17-match schedule, including three tournaments at Virginia Commonwealth, Colgate and Wisconsin-Green Bay. The women have 19 matches scheduled, including an appearance in Youngstown State's Penguin Classic. The Great Danes, who were 7-10-2 overall and finished fourth in the America East Conference men's standings, begin the season at VCU's Nike/Alltel Classic. UAlbany meets defending Atlantic Soccer Conference champion Adelphi in the first round before taking on the host school in the second round. Colgate and Cornell will be the opponents in the Raiders Adidas Fall Classic on Sept. 7-9. The Great Danes, who also have eight conference matches slated, travel to Wisconsin-Green Bay's tournament on Sept. 15-16. Head coach Johan Aarnio begins his eighth season. Brian Gordon, a member of the America East All-Rookie Team, and goalkeeper Steward Ceus, who posted a 1.34 goals against average, are among the returnees. UAlbany's women's soccer team made strides in head coach Mary-Frances Monroe's first season at the helm. The Great Danes went 5-13-1 overall, their most victories as a Division I program, and broke a 31-match skid in conference play. Diana Barrera (6 goals, 3 assists) and Jacklyn Rosada (6 goals, 2 assists) helped lead the upswing. In addition to an eight-match America East schedule, the Great Danes will open their season with a pair of home games against Colgate (Aug. 31) and Holy Cross (Sept. 2). HALL NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA SOCCER TEAM
Toledo
, Hall, who is presently pursuing his master’s degree in information technology systems, graduated last May with a B.S. in urban planning and minors in history and psychology by posting a 3.98 cumulative grade point average.
A two-time UAlbany captain, Hall
started all 19 matches as a defender and was second on team in scoring
with two goals and two assists in 2006. He led the Great Danes to a
fourth-place finish in the America East Conference standings and the
program’s third consecutive postseason tournament berth. Hall, a
two-time all-conference selection, was a starter in all 74 matches as a
collegian and totaled 10 goals and 15 assists.
Hall, who was recently named to the America
East all-academic squad, has been selected as the conference’s
scholar-athlete of the year in men’s soccer on two occasions. In
2005-06, he was awarded an ECAC Merit Medal as the school’s top senior
male student-athlete and was the recipient of the Chancellor’s
Scholar-Athlete Award. He recently served as vice president of the
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). ****************** UAlbany’s
