DANES BREAK THREE SCHOOL RECORDS AT IC4A MEET
Boston, Mass. - UAlbany track and field team finished fourth out of 53 at
the two-day IC4A meet at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on
Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomore Pat Weider finished sixth in the
200-meters, setting a school record in 21.44 seconds. He broke Gered
Burns' mark of 21.56 seconds, set in 2006. Sophomore Mike McCadney came in
second in the triple jump, breaking his own school record with a leap of
50-feet, 11-inches. The 4x800 relay squad, consisting of sophomore Jared
Jupin (Shaker), sophomore Joe Belokopitsky (Shaker), junior Ricardo
Estremera and freshman John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville), came in third in
7:37.83. Jupin, Estremera and Belokopitsky were members of the previous
record-holding team, with a time of 7:38.87, set in 2006.
Elsewhere, junior Dieuseul Joseph came in fifth
in the 55-meter dash in 6.43 seconds, while sophomore Jean Juste finished
fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.42 seconds. David Parker
(Niskayuna), who qualified for the IC4A meet after setting a school record
in the heptathlon at the America East Conference meet on February 16-17,
finished third with 4,804 points.
NINE
STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO A-EAST INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ALL-ACADEMIC SQUAD
Boston, Mass. - Jessica Ortman, the 2007 Female Indoor Track Performer of
the Year, led a group of nine UAlbany student-athletes who earned a spot
on the America East Conference Indoor Track and Field All-Academic squad,
as announced by the conference office.
Ortman, who won the 1,000-meter run and was a member of the school
record-breaking 4x800 relay team, posted a 3.91 cumulative grade point
average. Joining Ortman on the women's side were Anisha Andrews, Adanna
Andrews, Sarah Charles, Jenn Gurrant and Alyssa Lotmore.
Sophomore Freddie Wills led the men's side, after finishing second in the
long jump at the A-East Indoor Championships and achieving a 3.00 GPA.
Sophomore Andrew Overbaugh and junior Renauld Buck also earned
all-academic team honors.

MEN WIN FOURTH AMERICA EAST TRACK & FIELD CROWN IN PAST FIVE YEARS
Boston,
Mass. - Junior David Parker (Niskayuna) set a school record in the heptathlon,
finishing first in the event, as the UAlbany men's track and field team won the
America East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship for the fourth
time in the past five years on Saturday. The Great Danes tallied 203.5 points in
the meet, breaking the previous meet record of 202 points, set by Northeastern
in 1991. The two-day meet was held at Boston University's Track & Tennis
Center.
Parker, who tallied 4,914 points and qualified for
March's IC4A meet, won the heptathlon's 55-meter hurdles in 8.16 seconds and the
pole vault with a height of 15-feet, 2.75-inches, and tied for first in the high
jump with a leap of 6-feet, 4.75-inches. The previous school record in the
heptathlon was held by Fred Frese, who registered 4,849 points in 2004.
The Great Danes earned three other victories in track
events, with sophomore Pat Weider winning the 200-meters in 21.57 seconds and
sophomore Jean Juste taking the 55-meter hurdles in 7.52 seconds. In addition,
Weider was a member of the first-place 4x400-relay team, which also consisted of
sophomore Andrew Overbaugh, freshman Nick Lemp and senior Junior Burnett. The
relay registered a time of 3:16.99.
Burnett finished second in two individual events,
clocking in at 6.42 seconds in the 55-meters and at 21.63 seconds in the
200-meters. Elsewhere, freshman John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville) finished second
in the 800-meters in 1:50.83, his best time as a collegian, while Lemp came in
third in the 500-meters in 1:05.40. Another school record was set by the 4x800
relay team, as Jared Jupin (Shaker), Ricardo Estremera, Joe Belokopitsky
(Shaker) and Moore placed second in 7:38.73.
In field events, sophomore Mike McCadney won the triple
jump with a leap of 49-feet, 1.75-inches. Sophomore Freddie Wills, who won
Friday's long jump, finished second in the high jump with a distance of 6-feet,
7.5-inches, and came in third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-feet,
7.25-inches. Wills, who totaled 27 points, also had a sixth-place finish in the
hurdles. Junior Renauld Buck placed second in the shot put with a throw of
50-feet even.
"I told our team that it was a privilege to coach
them and that they have continued a winning tradition," said UAlbany coach
Roberto Vives, a member of the America East coaching staff of the year. "It
was a team effort all the way, especially to score that many points in both the
long jump and triple jump. David Parker has become a bonafide multi-event
athlete after competing in the heptathlon for the first time just two weeks ago.
Freddie Wills had an exceptional meet by scoring in four different events."

MEN FIRST, WOMEN THIRD AFTER FIRST DAY OF A-EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
Boston,
Mass. - Sophomore Kamilah McShine's school record-breaking victory in the
pentathlon highlighted the first day of competition for the UAlbany men's and
women's track and field teams on Friday, Feb. 16 at the America East Conference
Indoor Championships, held at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center. The
conference meet concludes on Saturday, Feb. 17 with finals in 27 events.
With five events completed, the men's squad finished
the opening day in first place with 50.5 points. UAlbany athletes took the top
four spots in the long jump, led by sophomore Freddie Wills, who won the event
with a leap of 23-feet, 6-inches, and junior Felipe Reyes (Christian Brothers
Academy), whose jump of 23-feet, 3.5-inches, was good for second place.
The distance medley relay squad, consisting of freshman
John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville), sophomore Joe Greene, sophomore Joe Belokopitsky
(Shaker) and junior Ricardo Estremera, came in third place in a time of 9:55.62,
breaking a 15-year-old school record of 9:57.66. Junior David Parker (Niskayuna)
finished fourth with a pole vault of 14-feet, 9-inches, and is the first-day
leader in the heptathlon with four of the seven events completed. Sophomore Jean
Juste came in first place in the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries in 7.58 seconds,
while Greene finished first in the 400-meter preliminaries in 47.68 seconds.
The UAlbany women ended the opening day third overall
with 47 points, 11 behind first-place Boston U. McShine finished first in three
of the five events in the pentathlon, registering a school-record 3,594 points
and qualifying for March's ECAC meet. She is also a favorite to win the 55-meter
hurdles after finishing first in today's preliminaries in a career-best time of
8.14 seconds. She qualified for the ECACs in that event as well.
After a third-place finish last season, senior Alyssa
Lotmore (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) won the 5000-meters in a time of 16:59.82,
nearly 24 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Sophomore Jenn Gurrant
finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 9.75-inches. Senior
Adanna Andrews had the best time in the 500-meter preliminaries in 1:15.77.

PARKER VICTORIOUS IN HEPTATHLON AT SYRACUSE INVITATIONAL
Syracuse,
N.Y. - Junior David Parker (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) won the heptathlon as
several other members of the UAlbany men's and women's track and field teams
participated at the two-day Syracuse Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
After UAlbany athletes won three events on Friday,
Parker qualified for March's IC4A meet by earning 4,833 points in the
heptathlon. His pole vault of 14-feet, 11-inches was a season-best, while his
time of 8.21 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles was a personal-best.
In Saturday's only other event, sophomore Kamilah
McShine had a third-place finish in the pentathlon, including a victory in the
55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds.

DANES BREAK FIVE SCHOOL RECORDS AT NEW YORK'S COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
New York,
N.Y. - Sophomore Jessica Ortman set a school record in the championship of the
800-meters, finishing second overall, as members of the UAlbany track and field
team competed in the second and final day of the Collegiate Invitational at the
New York Armory on Saturday, February 3. 106 men's teams and 104 women's squads
participated in the meet. Team scores were not recorded.
Ortman's time of 2:07.34 broke her own school record of
2:09.08, set earlier this season. Her time also met the NCAA's provisional
standard and qualified her for March's ECAC meet. In women's track events,
senior Sarah Charles finished second in the college division of the triple jump
with an ECAC-qualifying leap of 40-feet, 10.5-inches, also a new UAlbany mark.
On the men's side, in his first meet for the Great
Danes, sophomore Michael McCadney shattered the school record in the triple jump
with a leap of 49-feet, 10-inches, placing sixth overall in the championship
division and qualifying for the IC4A meet. Senior Junior Burnett finished ninth
overall in the 60-meter finals in 6.88 seconds, after breaking the 60-meter
school record in yesterday's qualifying race with a time of 6.77 seconds. The
men's 4x400 relay squad also finished tenth in the championship race.
Along with junior Corinna Hengen's record-setting pole
vault of 11-feet, 3.75-meters yesterday, five school records were broken in the
UAlbany squad's two days at the meet.
The Great Danes return to action next weekend, with
athletes competing at the Binghamton tri-meet and at the Tyson Invitational in
Fayetteville, Ark.

EARNS VICTORIES IN THREE EVENTS AT SYRACUSE INVITATIONAL
Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore Kamilah McShine, junior Amy Morrison and senior Chase
Frazer won their respective events as members of the UAlbany track and field
team competed at the Syracuse Invitational, hosted by Syracuse University, on
Friday, February 2.
McShine had a season-best time of 8.30 seconds in the
55-meter hurdles en route to winning the event. Freshman Meghan Crowe clocked in
at 9.30 seconds, a season-best and good for fourth place. Morrison won the pole
vault with a height of 9-feet, 10-inches, her first victory of the season and
tying for her best leap of the year.
Frazer won the long jump with a distance of 21-feet,
9.5-inches. Junior Anthony Basile and freshman Danny Hu finished third and
fourth in the event, respectively.
The Great Danes finish competition at the Syracuse
Invitational on Saturday morning.

WINS LONG JUMP AS UALBANY TRACK COMPETES IN COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
New York,
N.Y. - Junior Felipe Reyes (Rensselaer, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and
sophomore Freddie Wills finished first and third, respectively, in the college
division of the long jump as members of the UAlbany track and field team
competed at the Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Friday, February 2.
106 men's teams and 104 women's squads participated in the meet.
Reyes won the long jump with a leap of 23-feet,
8.25-inches, six inches further than the nearest competitor. Wills had a
jump of 23-feet, 1-inch. It was the second long jump victory for Reyes this season.
In men's track events, senior Junior Burnett finished tied for ninth in the
60-meter dash preliminaries in 6.77 seconds, setting a school record and qualifying for Saturday's finals.
Freshman John Moore placed third in the college division of the 800-meter run,
registering a time of 1:53.71.
On the women's side, senior Alyssa Lotmore (Albany,
N.Y./Bishop Maginn) came in third in the 5000-meter championship in 16:57.77,
her fastest time in the event this season. Senior Anisha Andrews finished 11th
in the 500-meter dash in 1:15.58, a career-best. Junior Brenna Militello
finished second in a jump-off in the consolation division of the high jump with
a leap of 5-feet, 4.5-inches, after tying for first place.

SCHOEN NAMED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Boston,
Mass. - University at Albany freshman Luke Schoen was named the league's men's
field performer of the week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Schoen finished first in the pole vault with a height
of 15-feet, 5.75-inches at Boston University's Terrier Invitational on Saturday,
Jan. 27. It was the freshman's second victory and his second-highest vault of
the season.
The Great Danes' track and field teams return to action
at the Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Friday and Saturday, as well
as at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday.

VAULT VICTORY HIGHLIGHTS UALBANY'S AFTERNOON AT TERRIER INVITATIONAL
Boston, Mass. - Freshman Luke Schoen won the pole vault with a distance of
15-feet, 5.75-inches, as the UAlbany men's track and field team participated at
the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Saturday, Jan. 27. No
team scores were recorded at the meet.
Sophomore Pat Weider came in third in the 200-meters
with a personal-best time of 21.58 seconds, qualifying for the IC4A meet in
March. Freshman John Moore also qualified for the IC4As by running the
800-meters in 1:50.85, fourth-best at the meet. Junior Ricardo Estremera was the
team's third IC4A honoree, running the 1000-meters in 2:28.86, good for fourth
place.
In field events, junior Felipe Reyes finished second in
the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 7.75-inches, while freshman Valete Graham
and junior Anthony Basile also registered top-ten finishes. Junior Renauld Buck
came in eighth in the shot put with a throw of 48-feet, 7.25-inches.
The Great Danes return to action at the Collegiate
Invitational in New York City on Feb. 2-3.

SELECTED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Mass. - UAlbany sophomore Freddie Wills was named the America East Conference's
Men's Field Performer of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
At the Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 19, Wills
tied for first place with teammate Felipe Reyes in the long jump. Both had leaps
of 23-feet, 5.5-inches, qualifying them for the IC4A meet. In addition, Wills'
triple jump of 47-feet, 1-inch was good for second place in the event and also
qualified him for the IC4A's, while his high jump of 6-feet, 5-inches was best
among UAlbany competitors and sixth-best overall.
The Great Danes' men's team finished second out of 22
teams at the meet, which was hosted by UAlbany and held at the Armory in New
York City. The men's team returns to action at the Boston Indoor Games on
Friday, starting at 4 p.m., and at the Terrier Invitational on Saturday,
starting at 9 a.m.

TRACK & FIELD SETS SEVERAL MEET RECORDS AT GREAT DANE CLASSIC
New York,
N.Y. - Sophomore Jessica Ortman set a UAlbany indoor record in the 800-meters as
the UAlbany men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Great Dane
Classic at the New York Armory on Friday, January 19. 22 men's teams and 18 women's teams participated in the meet.
Ortman ran the 800-meters in 2:09.08, eclipsing her own
school indoor record of 2:09.76, set at last year's New Balance Collegiate
Invitational. She also broke the Great Dane Classic record of 2:11.23, set by
Ortman last year. Ortman has won the 800-meters in all three meets in which she
has participated this season.
The women's distance medley relay team also set a meet
record in 11:49.56, with Ortman, senior Adanna Andrews, sophomore Melissa Lee
and senior Alyssa Lotmore participating in the event. In field events, junior
Brenna Militello tied a school record with a high jump of 5 feet, 5 inches.
Senior Sarah Charles set a UAlbany record in the triple jump with a leap of 40
feet, 3.5 inches.
On the men's side, senior Junior Burnett set a school record
in the 55-meter dash in 6.34 seconds, breaking Alix Rodriques' record of 6.38
set in 2001. Sophomore Joe Greene won the 400-meters and tied a meet record in
47.63 seconds, while sophomore Pat Weider won the 200-meters in 21.61 seconds. A
Great Dane Classic mark was also set by the first-place UAlbany distance medley
relay team, as freshman John Moore, sophomore Jared Jupin, freshman Nick Lemp
and junior Ricardo Estremera clocked in at 10:12.97. Sophomore Freddie Wills and
junior Felipe Reyes tied a meet record, both registering long jumps of 23 feet,
5.5 inches.
The UAlbany women finished third in the event, behind
Connecticut and 2006 meet champion Northeastern. The men's squad finished
second, trailing only Pennsylvania.
Next week, the Great Danes' men's team participates at the Terrier Classic in
Boston on Friday, Jan. 26 and Sat. Jan. 27, while the women travel to the Boston
Indoor Games on Friday, Jan. 26.
UALBANY
TO HOST FIFTH ANNUAL GREAT DANE CLASSIC
Albany, N.Y. - The University at Albany's track and field program will host the
fifth annual Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 19 at the New York City Armory.
The meet begins at 1:45 p.m.
This year's meet features 28 men's teams and 27 women's
teams, including last year's men's and women's champions Rutgers and
Northeastern, respectively. The field also includes America East members
Binghamton, Maine and Stony Brook.
On the women's side, senior Alyssa Lotmore, who won
last season's 3,000-meters, and sophomore Jessica Ortman, the 800-meters winner,
both return for the Great Danes. Ortman, the school's record-holder in the 800m,
has already won the event at two meets this season. Lotmore and Ortman were also
members of last season's first-place distance medley relay team. The field
events are highlighted by junior Brenna Militello, who has been UAlbany's top
high jump finisher at each of the team's meets and won the event at Army's
Carleton Crowell Open on Jan. 13.
Sophomore Joe Greene, who won the 400-meter dash at
last year's Great Dane Classic, returns for the UAlbany men's squad. Senior
Junior Burnett, who set the school's 60-meter record at last week's Gotham Cup,
and sophomore Pat Weider, the winner of the 400-meters at the Army meet, are
also among the team's runners. Junior Felipe Reyes, who qualified for the IC4A
meet with a long jump of 23 feet, four inches at last week's meet, is among
UAlbany's top participants in the field events.

BURNETT
SETS UALBANY 60-METER RECORD AT NEW YORK'S GOTHAM CUP
New York
City - UAlbany senior Junior Burnett set the school indoor record in the
60-meter dash in a time of 6.81 seconds as the Great Danes' track teams
participated at the Gotham Cup on Friday, January 12. No team scores were
recorded at the event.
Burnett, whose run also qualified him for the IC4A meet
in March, broke the previous record of 6.86 seconds, set by Alix Rodriques in
2001 and Burnett at the Yale Season Opener in December. The 4x400 relay team,
which included Burnett and sophomores Pat Weider, Joe Belokopitsky and Joe
Greene, won its race in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:12.82. Greene also finished
second in the 400-meters in a time of 48.73, making him eligible for the IC4As.
Freshman John Moore ran the 800-meters in 1:55.03 in his first meet as a
collegian. In field events, junior Felipe Reyes came in fourth in the long jump
with a leap of 23 feet, four inches, also sending him to the IC4A meet. Junior
Renauld Buck had a personal best with a weight throw of 45 feet, ¼ inch.
On the women's side, sophomore Jessica Ortman won the
800-meters in a time of 2:09.83, seven hundredths of a second off her own school
record. Senior teammate Adanna Andrews came in third in the race in 2:15.91. The
4x400 relay team, consisting of sophomore Jenn Gurrant, Adanna Andrews, Ortman,
and senior Anisha Andrews, qualified for March's ECAC meet in a time of 3:52.21,
good for third place. Senior Alyssa Lotmore finished seventh in the 3,000-meters
in 9:53.01, also qualifying her for the ECACs. Sophomore Ritshell Verdier's
sixth-place shot put throw of 43 feet, 2 ½ inches, highlighted the field
events, while junior Brenna Militello tied for seventh in the high jump with a
leap of five feet, three inches.
The two teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 19 at
the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at the New York City Armory.

UALBANY TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES EARN AMERICA EAST WEEKLY HONORS

Mass. - UAlbany sophomores Pat Weider and Jessica Ortman were named the America
East Conference Men's and Women's Track Performers of the Week, respectively, by
the conference office on Tuesday, Jan. 9. In addition, junior Brenna Militello
was named the women's field performer of the week. All three participated at
Army's Carleton Crowell Open on Saturday, Jan. 6, in which the Great Danes'
women finished first out of 11 teams and the men came in second out of 14. It
was the second meet of the season for both teams.
Weider won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.80
seconds. He was also a member of the first-place 4x400 relay team (3:23.60),
along with freshman Alan Nimblette, sophomore Andrew Overbaugh and senior Junior
Burnett. Weider previously qualified for this season's IC4A meet by running the
200-meters in 22:14 at the Yale Season Opener on Dec. 9.
Ortman finished first in the 1000-meters in 2:53.93,
qualifying for the ECAC meet in March. In addition, she ran a leg of the 4x400
relay, which won the race in 3:54.50. Other team members were sophomore Jenn
Gurrant, senior Anisha Andrews and senior Adanna Andrews. Ortman also qualified
for the ECACs in the 800-meters at the Yale Season Opener.
Militello won the high jump at the Army meet with a
career-high leap of 5 feet, 3.75 inches. She was also the highest UAlbany
finisher at the Yale Season Opener with a 5 feet, 1 inch jump.
Both teams return to action on Friday at the Gotham
Invitational in New York City, hosted by New York University.

MEN COME IN SECOND PLACE AT CARLETON CROWELL OPEN
West Point,
N.Y. - Sophomore Joe Greene came in first in the 800-meters on the men's side,
as the UAlbany women's indoor track and field team finished first and the men's
team finished second at the Carleton Crowell Open, hosted by Army on Saturday,
Jan. 6.
The men's side saw victories in six events,
including Greene, who registered a time of 2:00.20 in the 800-meter run
for the victory. Pat Weider's time of 49.80 seconds was good for a win in
the 400-meter dash. Both of the Great Danes' relay teams also came in
first. The 4x400 relay squad, consisting of Weider, freshman Alan
Nimblette, sophomore Andrew Overbaugh, and senior Junior Burnett, finished
in 3:23.60. Meanwhile, the 4x800 team of sophomore Jared Jupin, Greene,
sophomore Joe Belokoptisky, and freshman John Moore won the 4x800 in a
time of 8:00.50. In field events, sophomore Freddie Wills came in first in
the high jump with a mark of 6'
8", while junior David Parker's first-place pole vault
was 14' 7 1/2".
The Great Danes' team score of 156.90 was second only to Army, with 200.70
points.
The UAlbany indoor track team will return to action on
Friday, Jan. 12 at the Gotham Invitational in New York City.

BURNETT TIES SCHOOL RECORD IN 60-METER DASH AT YALE SEASON OPENER
New Haven, Conn. - University at Albany's Junior Burnett won the 60-meter
dash in a school-record time and was a member of the first-place
4x400-meter relay to highlight his team's performance at the Yale Season
Opener on Saturday, December 9 at Coxe Cage.
Burnett tied a UAlbany standard, set by Alix
Rodriques in 2001, when he sprinted 6.86 seconds to hit the tape first in
the 60-meter event. He also ran the second leg on a relay that posted an
IC4A-qualifying time of 3:16.75. Other relay members were Pat Weider, Joe
Belokopitsky and Joe Greene, who ran a 46.9 split on the anchor
leg.
Greene, a sophomore, ran the third-fastest time
in school history to win the 500-meter dash in 1:03.09. The Great Danes
had three other first-place finishers, including John Moore in the 800-meter run (1:55.65), Freddie Wills in the high jump (6'4.25")
and Luke Schoen in the pole vault (15-9). Schoen recorded the second-best

of 22-0.25. Ricardo Estremera was second in the 3,000 with a
personal-best time of 8:31.78.
In the women's competition, Jessica and Jenna
Ortman went one-two in the 800-meter run. Jessica qualified for ECACs by
covering the distance in 2:11.22. She also was a member of the winning
4x400 relay that crossed the line in 3:55.47. Adanna Andrews, who also was
a competitor on the relay, won the 500-meter dash in 1:17.44. Alyssa
Lotmore took second in the 5,000 with an ECAC-qualifying
mark of 17:12.95. Ritshell Verdier was second in the weight throw
(47-7.75) and third in the shot put (40-7.75).
UALBANY
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK TEAM PICKED FIRST IN AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL
Boston, Mass. - In a poll of league coaches, the UAlbany men's indoor track team
was chosen to finish first in the America East Conference, as announced by the
conference office on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The women's team was picked to finish
second out of nine teams.
The men's team, which won the America East championship
last season, received all eight possible first-place votes. The squad will
return sophomores Joe Greene, who set a UAlbany record of 47.41 in the
400-meters and finished third at the IC4A meet, and Pat Weider, who won last
season's 200-meter dash at the America East Championship. Also coming back are
junior Ricardo Estremera, the team's top finisher in the mile at the A-East
championship, and sophomore Freddie Wills, one of the Great Danes' top jumpers.
New Hampshire was given the conference's other first-place vote.
Both teams will start their seasons at Yale's Season
Opener on Dec. 9.
