Dental Public Health Residency
The Mission of public health is "to fulfill society's
interest in assuring conditions in which people can
be healthy", as defined by the Institute of Medicine's
Committee on the Future of Public Health. Practitioners
of public health are concerned with primary and secondary
determinants of disease, dysfunction and premature death,
and the planning and organization of health services
including health education and regulation. According
to the Institute of Medicine Report, state government
bears the primary responsibility to see that the mission
of public health is adequately addressed. The New York
State Department of Health, through its association
with The School of Public Health, University at Albany
is in a unique position to provide a link between theory
and practice of public health.
The Bureau of Dental Health provides a unique experience
for dentists interested in pursuing a career in dental
public health. Residents will be enrolled and/or have
access to graduate programs of the School of Public
Health and the vast resources of the Health Department,
including some of the nation's best data banks.
