Training & Education

Training and Educational activities form an integral part in fulfilling the Prevention Research Center's mission. Like other activities of the Center, we usually work in partnership with other offices or other agencies to deliver training programs.

Prevention Agenda Toward the Healthiest State

The PRC is pleased to be collaborating, once again, with the NYS Department of Health to offer training for local health practitioners and their community partners. The new training program, will support the Department's Prevention Agenda Toward the Healthiest State (click here to learn more about the Prevention Agenda).

On February 11, at the University at Albany School of Public Health, a limited number of counties proximal to the Capital District attended the pilot session for the new training, entitled Implementing the Prevention Agenda: Evidence-Based Principles and Practices for Executives. This pilot was provided to equip hospitals and local health departments with additional tools to complete their upcoming community health assessments and community service plans.

We are making available for download the training materials used in the course.
1) The Powerpoint slides are available as .pdf files in two layouts:
a) 3 slides per page, with room for notes adjacent to each slide
b) one slide filling each page
With 87 slides and numerous graphics, the file sizes are rather large. Even on a reasonably fast wireless connection, the single slide layout can take 10 minutes or more to download. We encourage users to download the 3 slide version unless you are certain that you need the single slide layout.

Download the 3 slides per page version (8 Mb)
Download the 1 slide per page version (28 Mb)
Visitors who would like to request other versions of these files may contact us by email: sphprc@albany.edu

2) Also available for download is an eight-minute video, "Community Health: Collaboration in Action", produced specifically for the training by SPH Continuing Education staff.    The video shows how a local health department collaborated with their community's hospital and other partners to prevent and manage diabetes -- one of the chronic diseases prioritized in New York's Prevention Agenda.

Download Windows Media Player version (.wmv file; 236 mb)
Download QuickTime version (.mov file; 127 mb)

Please note: These are very large files, and they may take several minutes to download, even on a reasonably fast, wired network connection.

Some users report that these movies play erratically when viewing within their web browser. To work-around this problem, right-click on the linked text, save the file on your drive, and play in your movie player program.

Alternatively, a click on this link will take you to the folder listing where you can download more easily.

Further information about the training program will be posted here as it becomes available.
