Welcome to the online home
of the University at Albany's Prevention Research Center. Funded originally
in 2002, we are one of the newer centers in the nationwide PRC
program-- but we are growing rapidly. "Community-Based Interventions
to prevent chronic diseases" describes the central theme of our
work. We work closely with our Community Advisory Board to help us define
our agenda and facilitate our work. Like many of our activities at the
University at Albany School of Public Health, we work in close collaboration
with our colleagues in the New
York State Department of Health.
The Nationwide
PRC program is a network of academic centers, public health agencies,
and community partners conducting applied research and practice in chronic
disease prevention and control. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) since 1986, there are now 33 centers around the nation
based in schools of public health or medicine.
The Mission of the Albany
Prevention Research Center is to develop diverse partnerships within
and across communities to design, conduct, evaluate and disseminate
the findings of studies that show innovative ways in which the resources
of the community (e.g., within households, schools, work sites, faith-based
organizations, etc.) can promote the health of community residents and
reduce the burden of chronic disease.
For a closer look at some of the work we are doing, please take a moment
to look through our newsletter, "Momentum, building momentum for healthier
lives through community-based research."
Like the Center itself, our
website is under continuous development. So look around at what is here
today, but come back again soon to see what we've added. Thanks for
visiting our website !
