The purpose of this webinar was to focus on Great Beginnings NY Strategy 4.  The presenters shared information on the establishment of Baby Cafés and the development of community networks.  The value of WIC Peer Counselors working with breastfeeding mothers prior to hospital discharge was discussed.

  • Describe rewards and challenges of implementing a baby café.
  • Understand how WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors can help provide support and basic education to breastfeeding mothers in the hospital.
  • Understand how to set up a system between WIC agencies and hospitals for using WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
  • Explain how regional breastfeeding coalitions and collaboratives can promote positive working relationships and promote mutual goals for hospitals and communities to benefit breastfeeding mothers.
  • Describe how to identify community resources and barriers for mothers through community networking.
