Promoting Lead Poisoning Prevention Activities

Program Description:
Dr. Jacobs discusses new opportunities to promote lead poisoning prevention activities among both housing providers and health care professionals. A national infrastructure to address lead-based paint hazards in housing has been developed over the past decade, making virtual elimination of this disease possible within 10 years. Dr. Jacobs also discusses HUD's new regulation requiring lead hazard controls in all federally-assisted housing and HUD's enforcement efforts. He will present information on HUD's Healthy Homes Initiative, which focuses on other housing conditions known to be related to other childhood diseases and injuries.
