Think Fresh! Partnerships for Promotion of Vegetables and Fruits in Low-Income Communities
Satellite broadcast originally aired March 20, 2003
This broadcast received a “Telly Award” for Excellence in Educational Programming.
Effective collaboration can increase awareness and individual investment in vegetable and fruit consumption in community programs such as Community Gardens, Farm to School Program and Community Supported Agriculture. Food quality is an increasingly important issue in emergency food provisions because these programs have become a mainstay for many low-income families. Low cost, innovative programs and initiatives can be designed to improve the distribution and preparation of fresh vegetables and fruits in the emergency food system. Odette Butler, BA, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Jefferson County and Theresa Murphy, MS, RD, United Way of NYC describe two effective programs in very different communities. (Sponsored by "Eat Well Play Hard" at NYS Dept. of Health).
Objective
As a result of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe at least one strategy for increasing consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in low-income communities.
