Psycho-Social Factors in Food Choice: Helping Children and Teens Eat Better

Program Description:
It’s apparent that obesity is increasing in children and adolescents and their diets are not healthful. How do children and teens come to develop eating patterns? What factors influence their food choices, and how can we help them?

Dr. Isabel Contento is Professor of Nutrition and Education in Health and Behavior Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research includes the psychosocial factors influencing food choice in children, adolescents and adults. It also includes nutrition education research developing and testing nutrition education programs directed at chronic disease risk reduction.
