Did you know that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is the leading known cause of mental retardation, and it is 100% preventable? FAS and Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE) refers to a group of physical and mental defects that can occur among children born to mothers who drank while pregnant. FAS has been estimated to occur in almost one in every 1000 births nationwide. While the problem of “crack babies” can be ameliorated, FAS lasts a lifetime. Learn more about what FAS is, how we can work to prevent fetal alcohol syndrome, the importance of early diagnosis and assessment, and how we can best help children with FAS/FAE.
