AIDS: 25 Years Later

From the deaths of a few young gay white men in 1981, to epidemic and pandemic proportions today, HIV/AIDS is a devastating public health challenge that today disproportionately impacts communities of color in this country and throughout the global community. In the USA, an estimated one million people are living with the virus. Globally, 40 million people are infected including, 17.5 million women and 2.3 million children under the age of 15.

Frank Oldham, Executive Director of the National Association of People with AIDS and Doug Fish, M.D., Medical Director, AIDS Treatment Program, Albany Medical Center will discuss the epidemiology of the disease, contemporary clinical and prevention interventions and advocacy. Their talk will address where we are, 25 years into this global public health problem.

 

School of Public Health, University at Albany, is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
