Promoting Cancer Screening:
Office Systems for Success

Description:
Implementation of guideline concordant cancer screening and treatment is a proven method for ensuring the early detection and proper treatment of cancer.  Multi-level barriers present challenges for physicians and patients with adhering to cancer screening guidelines. Office systems to increase adherence to cancer screening guidelines for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer will be presented. These systems will include simple, proven, non-electronic methods and the use of electronic medical records (EMR’s).

Objectives:
After watching this broadcast participants will be able to:

  • Describe components of successful systems (EMR’s, office staff involvement, tracking, reminders to MD and patient.) to increase compliance with guidelines.
  • Present a practice that has a systematic process for assuring cancer screening is provided for all eligible patients from screening to follow up.
  • Discuss provider and patient barriers to cancer screening and practical strategies for addressing barriers.
