Introduction to Public Health
The School of Public Health offers several training
opportunities to introduce people to the field of public
health. These would be of particular interest to people
working in state and local health departments who do
not have a degree in public health.
Foundations of Public Health Practice:
Professional Development Certificate
This basic introductory certificate provides foundation knowledge for public health workers with limited formal education or training in public health. Courses are offered both in person and via distance learning. For schedule and information on registration, click here.
Orientation
to Public Health
This free web-based module, provided by the New York-New Jersey Public Health Training Center, defines public health
and its obligations, explains how public health differs
from health care, and gives examples of how a local
health agency carries out the essential services of
public health. It is highly interactive and takes approximately 90 mintues to complete. (You do not have to complete it in one session.) It is appropriate
for both professional and non-professional staff with
little formal background in public health. It has been
adopted by the NYSDOH, New Jersey DHHS, and various
local health departments across the U.S.
Introduction
to Public Health: Comprehensive Curriculum Resource
This online resource package was funded through the New
York-New Jersey Public Health Training Center.
It includes PowerPoint files with notes, instructor
